James Garner RIP

Yet another of the great old school actors has passed away at 86 years of age

Garner was probably best known to many of who grew up in the 70s as Jim Rockford, a series which was pretty much on tv constantly in those days. It was certainly that series which brought him to my attention, followed by his later return to the character of Bret Maverick in the early 80s. He also had many numerous film appearances, all of which were worth watching...The Great Escape and Grand Prix among them. Not to forget those comedy westerns, Support Your Local Gunfighter and Support Youir Local Sheriff.

A great and likeable actor, and one who always put in an enjoyable performance in whatever role he was playing. He'll be missed.

I read his autobiography a couple of years ago; I don't believe his claims that he was a grumpy old git - except where the TV execs who tried to keep his share of the profits on Rockford were concerned!

I've never seen a single episode of The Rockford Files. I shall remedy that and put Season 1 on my rental list!
