Default Series 8 Poll - Best Writer

As a reminder, here's who wrote what:

    Deep Breath – Steven Moffat
Into The Dalek – Phil Ford and Steven Moffat
Robot Of Sherwood – Mark Gatiss
    Listen – Steven Moffat
Time Heist – Stephen Thompson and Steven Moffat
The Caretaker – Gareth Roberts and Steven Moffat
Kill The Moon – Peter Harness
Mummy On The Orient Express – Jamie Mathieson
    Flatline – Jamie Mathieson
In The Forest Of The Night – Frank Cottrell Boyce
Dark Water/Death In Heaven – Steven Moffat

But who was best this year?
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Jamie Mathieson wins but Steven Moffat is a close 2nd. Gatiss is the surprise loser, being bottom of my personal list.

Looking at the writer list, I'm surprised how many got a "And Steven Moffat" this year. I don't know if Moffat was writing in the extra bits with Danny and Clara, or whether it was more collaborative. I voted Moffat, because Listen was brill. Everything else he did was very enjoyable and Death In Heaven was so bonkers it doesn't matter.

Jamie Mathieson, with Moffat a close second. Frank Cottrell Boyce comes in last for me.

Jamie Mathieson gets my vote for writing the best two episodes of the season.

Usually I have to (sometimes reluctantly) admit that Moffat has managed to best everyone else. This year, though, and although it's probably very different to be writing 4+ episodes as an Exec as opposed to 2 episodes as a 'guest writer', I'm going with Tim, Mac & Paul and going for Jamie Matheson.

Doing 2 in the same run can be risky (although David Fisher managed it in the good old days, for one) but not only were both of Mr Matheson's stories very good indeed, they were each very different which suggests he has an ability to come up with different styles of story. Hopefully he'll be back next year.

Jamie Mathieson for his two scripts, with Moffat getting an honorable mention for 'Listen'.
