    A couple of very familiar covers there - the Judge Dredd one was part of the ongoing Judge Child saga I think, and I also had that Starburst with the large Boba Fett picture. They really bigged up Boba prior to Empire's release didn't they, even though he doesn't actually do all that much in the film! I have a feeling that Starburst had some of John Mollo's costume sketches for the film, which for some reason fascinated me at the time.

    I had that Empire Strikes Back comic too. An odd recollection perhaps, but I seem to remember getting it along with two or three other issues at the same time - one thing I really used to like as a kid was coming back from a couple of weeks on holiday, and having the past couple of weeks of comics to catch up on in one go. And I have a feeling that issue of Empire was in just such a batch that Summer.

    It's nice to see that Blake's 7 made an impact on a wider audience than just the general cult tv/sci-fan...although that Jackpot cover makes you think that it may not have been as good an impact as the producers may have wished...

    July 1977 is best known to Doctor Who fans as the month that Katy Manning's infamous photoshoot with a dalek appeared in an Australian magazine, Girl Illustrated. I'll refrain from posting the cover here as it would no doubt break the image decency rules, but I'm sure you're all familiar with the images and a quick Google search will suffice...

    We'll just move on with more mundane stuff which was available the same month, with a quick look at music, tv and film thrown in for good measure...
    In the world of comics, Captain Britain was ending it's original run while 2000AD was just a few months old. But war comics were seemingly amongst the most popular titles of the time...

























    On tv, the Saturday Night Horror Double Bills returned to our screens...





    The latest 007 movie also made it's debut early in the month at Leicester Square...



    There were two Number One albums in the UK this month...




    ...as well as two Number One singles...

    According to Barry Cryer, the "house" wine in the Broadcasting House canteen was called Sans Soucerres - "Without Wires".

    And is that a Zygon on the 2000AD cover?

    That's just what I was thinking Mr Wallis!

    Interesting to see Mr & Mrs getting the front cover of the TV Times - I didn't realise it was quite so 'big' a show, my memories of it are mainly of it being on ITV at lunchtimes (maybe that was repeats).

    The main thing that springs to mind from those covers is Krazy comic. For some reason, our local newsagents at the time (this was just round the corner from our house, on the outskirts of Carlisle) never stocked that, but I semi-regularly used to pick it up from WH Smiths in the city centre. For some reason, I associate that with a Thursday evening... maybe we had some kind of afterschool club on a Thursday? Or maybe I'm just getting myself very confused!!

    Anyway, it was a good comic - wherever I used to get it!

    In the HTV Wales region, we had our own (English language) version of Mr & Mrs hosted by Alan Taylor. He wore a monocle occasionally! You might know him as (Paint Along With) Nancy's assistant.

    Also available in August 1983 was the final edition of Marvel's Blake's 7 magazine; Maggie Philbin and Clint Eastwood were the cover stars of the Radio Times and TV Times, Superman 3 was on release at the cinema and Target's novelisation of Earthshock was released...
