On this day in 1955 the first This Is Your Life was broadcast in the UK. The very first host was Ralph Edwards who surprised ..... Eamonn Andrews .... who became host from the second show onwards. It's like a regeneration :-)

They could have kept the show fresh for years by handing on the baton each episode!
I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

It does make you wonder how much of a "surprise" Eammon's "Life" was....

Of course it was, stupid boy, especially as it's still being shown today!

Mr. Simpson is an old hand at the game, and can tell his members about rules and regulations, the knowing of which can keep them out of awkward situations...?
Is that a euphemism?

Exciting stuff indeed! Ideal Saturday night listening... An antidote to much of the mindless and inane stuff which constitutes (most of) our Saturday nights these days! Or should that just be most tv in general...
It was the BBC Radio 2LO which caught my attention there, as I always thought that Radio 2 only launched in 1967. It turns out that this isn't actually Radio 2, but just the name of the original BBC transmitter which launched the BBC's first ever program in 1922...
London Calling
Interesting stuff indeed!

Not to be confused with Jeff Lynne's radio transmitter, ELO.
I'll get me coat...
