Pertwee Survivor - The Final
Round 18 was the semi-final. Another story leaves the game and we will be left with our final two. Which story is going to fall one step from reaching the final but collecting a respectable Third Place?
Eviction:
Mind of Evil 4
Day of the Daleks 2
Spearhead from Space 1
Save:
Day of the Daleks 5
Spearhead from Space 2
With 4 Eviction votes and no Save votes, Mind of Evil leaves the game in 3rd place.
Evicted:

Although the nostalgia element plays really heavily in Day of the Daleks' favour, in fact it's no real contest is it. Spearhead from Space somehow does the unthinkable - Bob Holmes makes it look impossibly easy to reinvent the 'old guy ambles aimlessly through time and space and meets monsters on other planets' format into 'action hero based on Earth' and does it with style and wit and at the same time manages to keep the fundamental character of the Doctor the same. And it goes without saying that Pertwee gives a perfect debut, combining the same old intelligence (I love the way, for example, that he sniffs the plastic sphere) with the same glorious humour (the eyebrows....)
Sorry, damned predictive text, what I meant to type was:

I agree with every word that Andrew says. Nostalgia plays a big part in my fondness of Day Of The Daleks, I can clearly remember watching it on a b&w tv at my grans house. My first viewing of Spearhead, on the other hand, is just a few barely-remembered scenes such as the Doctor on the wheelchair. Spearhead, though, is in all respects the superior story which remains to this day the best debut story for a new Doctor.
Which makes this a very difficult choice....it's very tempting to vote for a Dalek win just to keep things interesting with a few days to go and several votes still to come...but if I'm being honest with myself, there's really only one deserving winner.
