Comic Relief 2009

It's the eleventh big Comic Relief live show on BBC1 tonight.

"Highlights" include:

7-8pm - Girls Aloud and Sugababes perform, Mr Bean Special, Ant & Dec, Comic Relief Does Fame Academy, Harry Hill's TV Burp Special

8-9pm - Creature Comforts Special , Catherine Tate's Lauren sketch (think Tennant appears in this one). Russell Brand and Dennis Waterman star in Little Britain Live sketches and the Dead Ringers team poke fun at the world of celebrity.

9-10pm - Comic Relief Does Fame Academy Final, The Vicar of Dibley (final ever of all-time last ever episode eternity). Carol Vorderman and Jonny Ball appear in a live edition of Mitchell and Webb's Numberwang, Take That perform live in the studio, and a top secret treat from Peter Kay.

10-10:35pm - Top Gear of the Pops on BBC2 (could be the highlight of the night)

10:35-11:30pm - Comic Relief Does The Apprentice, sketches from Catherine Tate, Ricky Gervais as never seen before, and Jonathan Ross and Kate Moss appear in Little Britain Live.

11:30-00:30am - Norton and McCall take over. The Killers perform, Borat exclusive, Armando Ianucci quiz and more from Little Britain Live. Chris Moyles and guests perform the last leg of his Rally-oke tour.

00:30-01:30am - Russell Brand hosts. Mitchell and Webb perform a Comic Relief version of 'Lady In Red', more from Aardman Animations and Little Britain Live. Tim Westwood appears in a special Pimp My Ride.

1:30-3:00am - Simon Pegg and Nick Frost introduce the best from past Comic Relief shows.

Probably loads of stuff that hasn't been mentioned/written/made up in the pub yet.

I might end up watching bits of it between TOTP (BBC Four), Corrie, Tales of the Unexpected (ITV3) and Star Trek on BBC2.

just like with Children in Need, it's a bit to much to sit and watch the whole thing from start to end so i'll only be dipping in now and again to watch it ..

I missed that!

It's actually been pretty funny this year (apart from, perhaps, the 'Vicar Of Dibley' sketch), the Tate/Tennant sketch being possibly the funniest skit so far. I loved the Peter Kay/Little Britain/Proclaimers/anyone you can possibly think off including Frazer Hines song - I wonder what the likelihood of that being released as a single are?

Kate Thornton was looking good - so was Tara Palmer-Tomkinson for that matter!

We screamed with joy at the host of icons in the Peter Kay/Little Britain thing. Bonnie, Frazer, Ten-inch (out of place with all the has-beens surely?), Jenny MacAlpine et all.

"Bobby Davro!" during the Peter Kay/Little Britain/Proclaimers video is easily the highlight of the night for me.

The Ricky Gervais bit was crap beyond belief.

The highlights have been the name-the-hasbeens in the Proclaimers bit... a happy distraction from the odious Peter Kaye and the crappiest of Matt Lucas' characters, Russell Brand in sexy underwear, and Clarkson's "What the **** is this?"

I actually enjoyed the Blair bit, but only because it made him look a bit of a tit. Not a patch on Thatch in "Yes Minister".

I watched S3 of 'South Park' all night. Plenty of laughs there.

I'm with Wayne on this. It's just contrived forced wackiness and its annoying. I'd rather they just produced some great comedy rather than roping in celebrities to say something daft!

Maybe I've just become a miserable old sod.

It wasn't. It wasn't even clever, or particularly original. Apart from the 'celebrity' overload, it was like Ricky Gervais' stand-up stuff - mainly crap, in my opinion - and was further proof of the fact that, although he has created some works of genius in The Office and Extras, he can also be incredibly unfunny, and is a deeply unlikeable person to boot.

To find myself laughing at bits from Little Britain and Catherine Tate was surprising enough... but they were certainly preferable to this.

I didn't mind the Ricky Gervais bit, but I know what people mean about him not being likeable. I can admire (some of) his work, but never really find myself warming to him.

What was in the Tennant/Tate bit? I only caught a very brief glimpse. He was being a teacher and she was doing the Lauren "Am I bovvered?" stuff. Did anything else happen there?

He pulls out something that looks like the sonic screwdriver (blue light) and turns Lauren into the Rose action figure, kinda like the Master with his TCE. He keeps his Scottish accent throughout, though.

I'm sure there must be an hilarious thread on OG debating whether it should be assigned a production code.
