    Default McCoy Survivor Round 6

We've come to the end of Round 5 and another story is set to leave the game. Which one will go this time? Will Wayne make it 5 round on the trot where he has voted to Evict a story and it has ultimately left the game?

    Evict:
    Dragonfire 3
Greatest Show in the Galaxy 3
    Battlefield 2
    Ghost Light 1

    Save:
    Remembrance of the Daleks 3
    Battlefield 2
    Curse of Fenric 1
    Dragonfire 1
Greatest Show in the Galaxy 1
    Ghost Light 1

With 3 Eviction votes each and both having just the one Save vote, both Dragonfire and Greatest Show in the Galaxy depart the game. Another double eviction.

    Evicted:
    Paradise Towers
    Happiness Patrol
    Time and the Rani
    Delta and the Bannermen
    Silver Nemesis
    Dragonfire
    Greatest Show in the Galaxy

    Contenders:
    Remembrance of the Daleks
    Battlefield
    Ghost Light
    Curse of Fenric
    Survival

    That's 5 in a row for Wayne.

And we have our top 5 too

Right, that does it - I'm off. When people are more scared of disagreeing with Wayne than they are of The Lads...

Not that I'm disagreeing with him now...

    I don't think it'll be 6 in a row, Wayne.

I can't complain. All the worst offenders have gone, and all the remaining stories have some merits to them.

I'd agree that there are merits to the remaining stories, but it's sad that there was ever an era of the show where that's the best I can say about them. I know I'm in the minority around here, but for me none of the remaining stories can match the classics of earlier years...

It's really just down to which era of the show you grew up with though, isn't it?

I suppose it is; the sad thing from my view is that there are stories in this last five that I'd argue over whether there were any merits other than a good idea at the time. But as you say, that's just me.

Conversely (or perversely, take your pick) of the twelve stories that make up McCoy's era there are only two that I think are below par. The rest, IMHO, are equal to 'the golden era' and in a couple of cases are equal to the very best 'the golden era' gave us. That's not to knock what came before, just that I don't buy into the suggestion that Doctor Who got better and better in the 60s & 70s and worse and worse in the 80s!!

Stuart, we're just a couple of old fogeys. We were looking out for some black 'Bah Humbug' Santa hats when we were down last week...they would have been perfect for this thread!

Andrew...while I'm of the belief that the series was at it's best in the mid-70s (closely followed by much of the 60s) I've got to admit that much of my feelings stem from nostalgia. That nostalgia just doesn't stretch as far as the McCoy era, though...the only nostagic feeling I have of that period is one of disbelief and horror!

    But as I said....Bah Humbug!!!

Everyone has their personal golden era. Mine's 1970 to '77.

But I do largely prefer McCoy's era to Colin's. Although I prefer the 6th Doctor, he didn't half have some awful stories. I think the worst two seasons are 23 & 24.
