    Default Sir Terry Wogan has died



    Veteran BBC broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan has died aged 77, after a short illness, his family has confirmed.


    In a statement, they said: "Sir Terry Wogan died today after a short but brave battle with cancer.
    "He passed away surrounded by his family. While we understand he will be missed by many, the family ask that their privacy is respected at this time."


    BBC director general Tony Hall said: "Terry truly was a national treasure."

    Sir Terry leaves wife Lady Helen and their three children. The couple also had a daughter who died in infancy.

    Sad news. The dreaded bloody cancer takes another one. It's not looking good to be a celebrity this year.

    He's another one of those people who's always been around and you just don't expect to go quite yet.

    He was a true broadcasting legend.

    I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

    El Tel is gone. Just when you think he'd still be there presenting Radio 2 for the next 20 years.
    Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

    And frighteningly it's still barely February. Just shows how much of a curse cancer's become. The Wogan's one of those celebrities you can't imagine the world being without until they leave it, then they do and it's worse for it.
