Cult TV Survivor The 80s
As we seem to be having a runaway winner in the 70s thread, let's move on to the 80's...the usual rules apply, negative voting only after 2 weeks. For the purposes of this thread, we're looking at all 7 seasons of Star Trek TNG here, as the 90s thread will have enough Trek series of it's own!

Only out of curiosity, Mac, how did you arrive at the list? Gold Monkey was a really fun show (from memory at least, but it was a long time ago) but I don't know it's as well remembered as any of the others now. And was it a three-way toss up between Tales of the Gold Monkey, Automan, and Manimal to make the final list?

I'm appalled Robin of Sherwood didn't!

Right guys...
First up, as it's Day One and I boobed I'm amending the list (it shouldn't make much difference to the result at this early stage)...next, an explanation - I was simply in a bit of a rush to get out to work and didn't really check the finished post. It was a botched job! Paul I'm afraid I've never seen, or heard of, Knights Of God until now so hadn't planned that; Si, Robin Of Sherwood WAS (and still is) on my list in my Word document here on my laptop and had been intended to appear in this thread - along with Hammer House Of Horror - so both those now take their rightful place on the list. And Andrew, you were correct when you guessed that TOTGM was on a shortlist of sorts with Automan and Manimal, along with Blue Thunder, Airwolf, MacGyver, Street Hawk and Something Is Out There all of which would have simply made for a long list to be practicable...not all of them would have made it but as I was a tad clumsy with my copy-and-paste...so by way of apology I'm expanding the list to include the series which you all mentioned - Robin, Automan, Manimal and Knights.
Sorry guys!

No need for apologies, Mac - I was just curious. And thank goodness Airwolf and Streethawk never made the list, they were awful!

We are moving past my era now. There are 4 on the list I've never even heard of. A further 2 that I've never seen, and only 5 that I think are any good.

Hi guys as a "UN Observer" I'm confused. I understood the rules are no negative voting for two weeks...yet this is clear not happening... I agree with Wayne in that many of these series I've never heard of... and I'm struggling to find anything on the list I actually like ... I conclude the 80s had a dearth of quality all round for sci-fi!

Hi Ralph! I think (although as I type this, it occurs that I may have got it wrong myself) that the rule is that after two weeks ONLY negative voting is allowed - but for the first two weeks, it can be positive OR negative. But you may be right and I might have just misinterpreted that negative voting doesn't start until after two weeks.
Also, I have to admit when you think about the 'genre' shows of the 70s, and of the 90s, there wasn't that much to get excited about in the 80s. It didn't really feel like that at the time (and I guess, although not worth worrying about now, that the original 'Beauty & The Beast' maybe should have made the list) but it's hard not to think it now!!

No misinterpretation, Andrew...the only rule for the first two weeks is one vote per person, per day. That vote can be cast whichever way you want, positive or negative. But if negative voting ONLY didn't start at some point these games would never end...
And I've got to admit it's a pretty weak list compared to the previous rounds...the 80s weren't the strongest period for tv, were they? The 90s list looks more promising!
