Default Rate And Discuss: S11E8 The Witchfinders

The Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz arrive in 17th century Lancashire and become embroiled in a witch trial run by the local landowner.

As fear stalks the land, the arrival of King James (the first) only serves to intensify the witch hunt. But is there something even more dangerous at work? Can the Doctor and friends keep the people of Bilehurst Cragg safe from all the forces that are massing in the land?

Voted Goshdarn it but could go higher after a rewatch.
That was the best of the series for me. If there is bigger stuff to come then even better.

That was very good. I was almost put off when Cumming started chewing the scenery but the overall story was extremely compelling. Definitely one of the best episodes this year and not just for being historical.

I enjoyed that a fair bit, some of the exposition was a bit clunky but otherwise it was a lot of fun, the Doctor was in actual peril for the first time in ages, and Alan Cumming was delightfully OTT, the first memorable guest star in far too long. 7.5/10

Once again, I really enjoyed it. Alan Cummings initial entrance seemed to be veering on the wrong side of OTT, but in fact he was really good. Pretty darned good!!

    I really enjoyed it!

Alan Cumming was great. I think the episode needed a big performance like his to level out the rather nastier bits like the ducking stool sequences.
Jodie was excellent. I loved her exchange with the king and her escape from the ducking stool.

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

Well done everyone involved! A favourite area of history for me, so I might be a bit biased, but what SJW posturing therein could be put down to the past being a foreign country and dealt with subtly and in the way we're used to it being dealt with for the period (ie. drowning people for witchery just because they're good with a strip of tree bark and a bit of fennel is wrong). Alan Cumming is good here, not just for comic relief, but for not going too far with portraying the King's character - note the casting; he should know how far to take it after all.

I really enjoyed that! That's been 3 really enjoyable episodes in a row now, the series seems to be hitting it's stride now! 8/10 The best of the series so far for me, here's hoping the next few episodes keep the high standard...
