After meeting John Levene in Glasgow earlier this year and chatting to him about The Time Monster, I just can't take points off it at the moment (despite it being a pretty weak story). So I'm turning my sights on The Mutants for now...

He was great, Wayne. The man was a pleasure to meet. It was at Glasgow Film & Comic Con, we were walking along the line of guests trying to decide who we'd like to meet and just as my friend spoke the words "I wonder what I can say to Sgt Benton without sounding too corny", John came bounding out from behind his table not even giving us a chance to pass him by saying "I saw you, I saw you...don't be shy, just come and say hello". Before saying anything else, he asked us if we'd like a couple of photographs with him on our phones? Free of charge, of course he was quick to add! We weren't going to say no, were we? We spent about 10 minutes chatting to him ("No need to buy anything" he said "although I'd obviously like it if you do! There are a good selection of photos here, and I also have my autobiography out as well if you're interested!"), some general stuff about how much he enjoyed working with John, Katy and the others but how he never realised how special it was to other people until years later. And some more specific stuff - after my friend commented on Day Of The Daleks "You'd be amazed just how many people like that cheese and wine scene"; My question?...does he remember filming the scene in The Time Monster where he is turned back into a (naked) adult after being turned into a baby by the Master? "Omigod, yes" he laughed "believe it or not, out of all the things I've had to do in my career that scene was one of the few things I've really dreaded! You see, I knew all week that it was coming and I just couldn't get it out of my mind..."
Like I said, the man was a pleasure to meet...an outgoing and friendly personality. He was so entertaining that we couldn't walk away without purchasing a couple of autographed photographs. It was one of the highlights of my year
