I haven't watched it more than once! Although this comment isn't a criticism of this episode, but rather the entire new series in general. The new series doesn't have the same rewatch appeal to me that the classic series does; I find that any modern-era Who that I watch tends to be episodes picked when browsing streaming services (ie just settling for one...that episode will do or I'll sit here browsing all night and watch nothing!), rather than digging out a favourite story on dvd and sticking it in. It's maybe a subtle difference, but it's an important distinction between the two eras imo!

I've really enjoyed this series. A lot more landed from what seemed it didn't seem to.

It was very close between these two episodes, in fact, imo. More so than the final score would make it appear. But quite simply, the first episode grabbed me in a way that I wanted to see what happened next, but over the next few episodes, enjoyable as they were, my interest was waning. Mid-season Village Of The Angels grabbed me again, and arguably it was the better episode of the two; but again it was a case of diminishing returns over the next few episodes. So by my reasoning, although I slightly prefer VOTA as an individual episode, if The Halloween Apocalypse hadn't been so enjoyable then I probably wouldn't have bothered with the rest of the series so it sort of wins by default!

And sorry for voting your favourite out first btw, even though that was the case it's nowhere near as bad as many stories I've seen over the years! as a child of the Pertwee years I think it's just how I feel about a lot of modern tv and film, all style over substance regardless of how they try to dress it up.

I'm really tempted to watch the new version of The Ipcress File, but I really don't know whether to bother...I love the original version, but will I come awa fro the new version just wishing I had rewatched the original version (again!)? The same with The Bourne Identity, I find the Richard Chamberlain/Jacklyn Smith version to be much more enjoyable than the modern era Matt Damon remakes, so DW isn't the only series I'm struggling with!
