Default The NEW Doctor Who Thread. Congratulations to...

Although "Sex Education" referenced, I've never saw that or anything they've been in.
But I want to make a thread on Planet Skaro to welcome the NEW Doctor Who!
Who will take over from Jodie Whittaker's run.
I hope they have an amazing time in the role. Looking forward to many adventures to come.
Welcome Ncuti Gatwa to Doctor Who!!
Congratulations on behalf of all of us here @Planet Skaro.
    Many successes forwards!

Good luck to him. My only reservation being, they've largely been casting people I've never heard of since 2005. Mind you, given someone with a Scottish Bafta whom I don't know or James Corden...

I'm quietly hopeful. I've never heard of him, but then again I'd never heard of Matt Smith & he was brilliant.

I was happy with Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Peter Capaldi & even Jodie Whittaker because I had seen them in stuff before. Jo Martin was another out of nowhere casting that proved to be brilliant, so my hopes are high.

Good luck Ncuti Gatwa, you are going to need it!

I'm really excited - it was great fun last Sunday to see a whisper become a rumour become a fact spreading like wildfire all over Twitter etc. No doubt there are some vicious corners complaining, but all I've seen is people being excited about it - the biggest surprise seems to be that it's NOT a woman!!

As for Ncuti himself, although I don't imagine he's going to play it like Eric in Sex Education, that role has made me laugh and made me cry, so he's definitely got 'range' (as the actors say) which makes me think he'll handle with style whatever the scripts throw at him.

When Matt Smith was cast, in that Confy Special, there was a vibe about him and I've got that same sense of excitement from 'the new guy'!!

At least Wikipedia understands that YOUNG CHILDREN will be looking up Ncuti and have given a Plain English explanation of how to pronounce his name rather than the IPA symbols nonsense that little kids have no hope of understanding.

Now what about doing everyone else the same favour? IPA - is that what those squiggles are called, or what its inventors were drunk on?

International Phonetic Alphabet. Geeks love it, casual readers? No.

No, it is just that IPA may as well be Amharic to casual readers. The systematic bias on Wikipedia means the editors don't get that.

What I loved most of all about Tom Baker, and what is missing from today's incarnation of the show is the sense of whimsy. New Who goes for quirky, which is not the same thing

My wife and I binge watched Sex Education after the new Doctor was announced, to see what he was like in that. Watched the season three finale yesterday, and we are now waiting expectantly for news of season four. Really, really good. And Ncuti is a very good actor, based on this.

But the next Doctor isn't Ncuti Gatwa...It's David Tennent. Apparently he is now the 10th Doctor & the 14th! Ncuti Gatwa is the 15th.

It looks like we are getting 3 specials over the November 60th anniversary & then we get Ncuti at Christmas.

Merry Christmas! I haven't been taking part in this year's Festive quiz . But bring you news of a Twitter video!
Millie Gibson's costume. Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor costume! As worn by their actors!

I'm getting shades of Sherlock Holmes Arthur Dent and Lenny Henry's Doctor Who trousers!

Stay safe and I hope we're all here to see the finished product in action.

Oh trailer! It'll be Doctor Who. Some bits we'll like. Some bits we'll go "Urrgh". Some bits we'll go "Eh?" and everywhere in-between. Possibly in the same episode. We're not in Kansas anymore that's for sure.
By the way, so glad this forum is back. It went down a few days ago. 5 or 6 or 7 weeks to go*. Look busy!
*=Until the series is back, not the forum going offline.
    Hope everyone's well.

I managed Space Babies last night. Was going to mimic the 80's US marathons. But glad I saved The Devil's Chord for this morning.
Both improved actually on the actual broadcast. Still wasn't the one two punch hoping it would be.
The Devil's Chord did some lifting. This morning I was aghast at the ending of the second story.
But seeing it again I never noticed that character at the end first time.
Well, no idea the exact number of episodes. But Friday night now has a new ritual!
If no polling 4 to 5/10 first one. 8/10 for the second one.
No idea what's going to happen over next few weeks. How many staying the course or casual?
All these months after the thread was created (So much more cultivated and considered than social media streams of consciousness) we're finally here! It's just been on. Two episodes of the new Doctor Who series. Ncuti Gatwa's first.
Jodie still favourite but very good so far. Thanks for reading this. Discourse continues forthwith but in considered moments.

Welcome back to Saturday nights, Doctor Who!!!

Sorry but Space Babies was childish rubbish. Then Devil's Chord was ticking along nicely (Jinkz Monsoon was, in my opinion, very good) then we get a cross between High School Musical and Glee.
I hope the rest of the series is better but I don't hold out much hope.
I’m being extremely clever up here and there’s no one to stand around looking impressed! What’s the point in having you all?

I'm only slightly late in putting up a poll for these two new episodes

Have to admit watching it in the morning instead of late at night really seriously improves my understandings of the episode!
