The Robin Hood thread
Some anal gimp was going to mention this on a forum with a similar name yesterday. It was reported in the Sun/Broadcast/Teletext and is now on the BBC Press Office site:

Some good quotes in that press release.

In that case, I might have to get my Robin Of Sherwood DVD's out again next September!
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

It's watchable, but not something that's essential Saturday night viewing (like Who naturally). I often leave it to a BBC3 repeat later in the week, and indeed of late can now rely on VOD too. It's also not something that I'd particularly want to get on DVD either. Being of the ROS generation, I was always bound to compare it unfavourably with that fantastic show...

Last night's episode was the best one so far. Decent writer as well.

Watched it for the first time in two weeks, and it was indeed one of the better episodes.

I watched the first episode and haven't seen it since. It was ok, but nothing terribly impressive.

well I nrver saw Robin of Sherwood, with Jason Connery so I can't really compare how good this new version is but I think it's just typical of what you would expect from any Robin Hood. The lead character Jonas Armstrong, plays the part with the usual boyish charm and practical joker but can also fight like hell when he has to. So for me though I'd agree it's not a classic in the Errol Flynn, mold but it's still a very enjoyable and entertaining romp..

The ratings seem to levelled out at 5.5-6million now (once timeshifts are added). Overnight figure was 5.5million/23.6% on Saturday. That's what it's been for the last three weeks now.
Final BARB figures so far (well, first six episodes)
Will You Tolerate This? - 8.56m
Sheriff Got Your Tongue? - 7.18m
Who Shot The Sheriff? - 6.3m
Parent Hood - 6.61m
Turk Flu - 6.45m
The Tax Man Cometh - 5.76m (5.4m overnight)
Brothers In Arms - 5.5m overnight
Tattoo? What Tattoo? - 5.5m overnight
Decent figures opposite The X Factor and the first BBC1 Sunday repeat pulled in 2 million last night. Then there's the 300-400,000 who watch the BBC Three repeats as well.
It's been a solid performance in BBC1's Autumn season.
Massive Robin Hood plot spoilers for episodes 12-13 in the latest BBC Programme Info update thingy...

Friar Tuck will appear in series two.
http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcas...966684,00.html
From Media Guardian:
...Mr Fincham also revealed today that a Friar Tuck character will be cast for the second series of Robin Hood, which will return to BBC1 Saturday nights next year...
I think he wants Matt Lucas, but will it be Biggins or Vegas?

Less than three weeks until Series Two begins.
October 6th means programme info will appear HERE this Friday. Trailers might even start this weekend.
Series Two is meant to be "bigger and darker":
Robin's Who challenge
Charlie Brooks (Janine in EastEnders) is also meant to appearing, according to The Sun.

I thought it was dreary old bobbins.
Good to see series 2 has "more fighting and love affairs". Clearly that will make it more popular.

I can't find any info on the Complete Series DVD contents. Is it just the extras from the individual releases!?

Decent guest stars:
In this series, which also features such notable guest stars as Dexter Fletcher, Ralf Little, David Bamber, Josie Lawrence, Denis Lawson, Tony Slattery, Mathew Horne, Charlie Brooks and Lynda Bellingham, Robin is in even greater peril than before as he tries to foil the Sheriff and Guy's evil scheme to hire a mercenary troop of Black Knights to assassinate King Richard and put Prince John on the throne.

So did anyone see the trailer for series 2 after Eastenders last night?
Looks like they've upped the ante
-
26th Sep 2007, 11:18 AM #23
Well they couldn't really lower the ante could they? I won't be watching. It's no Robin of Sherwood, which remains the definitive version for me.

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.
-
26th Sep 2007, 11:30 AM #24
Surely thats the point-its not meant to be Robin Of Sherwood, simply a new variation of a classic hero
-
26th Sep 2007, 11:33 AM #25
But it was slower paced and less lavish and far, far less exciting than a series made 20 odd years ago. That's not progress is it?
