Default Serenity - Best SF Movie of all-time(?)

Readers of SFX magazine say so, here......

    http://www.sfx.co.uk/page/sfx?entry=..._the_fireflies

About time Star wars was toppled, but was it Whedon fans doing a bit of Doctor Who rigging?

    The Top 10 were :-

    1. Serenity
    2. Star Wars
    3. Blade Runner
    4. Planet of the Apes
    5. The Matrix
    6. Alien
    7. Forbidden Planet
    8. 2001: A Space Odyssey
    9. The Terminator
    10. Back to the Future

What do we say? Do we agree?

I've never seen it but the position of "The Matrix" on the list doesn't impress me much

Indeed. Nor 'Back to the Future'. Still, at least E ****ing T isn't up there!

It's an SFX poll and I suspect Serenity is a sci-fi fans' film rather than an SF movie, if you get my drift. Plus Joss Whedon has an incredibly loyal fanbase and SFX is quite frankly part of that- they've always had good access to Buffy, Angel and Firefly. Star Wars as the biggest SF film with mainstream appeal, by all means.

I'm sure I've voiced my doubts about SFX and Joss Whedon before. It got to be such a joke I stopped reading it. Funnily though no-one I know has mentioned Buffy since it ended except ... SFX!

Plus it's a fairly recent film. I was reading how Bros' I Owe You Nothing was voted the best record of all time in a poll for Radio 1 shortly after it's release, but the next year it didn't even make the top 100. I do like Serenity, but don't think it's quite the classic many have made it out to be, for me there are far better episodes of Firefly itself.

I've only seen three of those films.

Serenity is a load of spurt for geeks.

The Top 10 is clearly upside down.

SFX has always been a Whedon w*nk rag.

Echoing my thoughts exactly. Sorry but I thought Firefly wasn't too special - and was annoying as they killed some of the best characters, and by the end turned retard girl Summer into another Buffy clone.

It depends on whether people were voting for the best film or their favourite film, doesn't it. the two aren't necessarily the same thing.

I've seen them all, except Serenity, and the others are all the usual suspects.

If I didn't hate Firefly so much, I might be able to give an unbiased response to this thread!
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!
